Ulster Consort and Diana Burrell

Sincerely grateful to the Ulster Consort for introducing me to the work of composer Diana Burrell. Her latest piece, Apostle to the Apostles, had its premiere at the iconic Stormont Parliament Buildings in Belfast.

As always, the Ulster Consort delivered a stunning performance. Diana’s orchestration and her inventive use of timbre combinations were truly a revelation.

While this premiere was presented without staging, the music itself—filled with compelling melodic lines and fascinating blends of orchestral and percussion textures—made the nearly hour-long performance fly by. I hope to see a fully staged production of this remarkable work in the future.
